The 105kg weightlifter won a silver medal in the men's 105 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
“I am not going to participate in the Fajr Weightlifting Cup in Tehran. To partake in the event I need spinal injection and I think it’s dangerous for me. I don't take any risks,” Nassirshalal said.
“I think I have to quit weightlifting in case of surgery, however I will always keep in touch with the sport,” he added.
