Business Owners Board Up Ahead of Pro-Trump Rallies in DC (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Many businesses in downtown Washington boarded up their windows, fearful that the pro-Trump protests could devolve into the unrest seen in May and June when dozens of businesses were vandalized.

Shops were seen preparing for potential violence as several pro-Trump rallies were set to take place in Washington, DC, by boarding up their windows on Tuesday.

The National Guard have also been deployed in the city as pro-Trump protesters gather in the capital ahead of the certification of the US Electoral College vote by Congress.

Thousands of protesters, including members of the far-right pro-Trump Proud Boys group, are expected to rally in Washington, DC, on Wednesday as Congress is set to count the Electoral College votes cast by the states, which Biden won 306-232.

The normally largely procedural affair is the last step that will formally certify Biden as US President-elect but this year's ceremony could drag on for longer than normal, as Republican lawmakers have announced that they intend to object to Biden's victories in several states, although their efforts are expected to be unsuccessful.
