Hundreds of Palestinians gathered in the West Bank city of Nablus on Monday to bid farewell to Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by Israeli forces last Friday.
The funeral procession began at Rafidia Government Hospital, with mourners walking through several streets.
They chanted slogans condemning Israeli atrocities and praised international supporters, as reported by Anadolu.
Leading the funeral prayer was Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas, with leaders from various Palestinian factions and a large public turnout joining in.
Eygi's body, carried on the shoulders of mourners, was wrapped in the Palestinian flag, with her head covered by the traditional Palestinian keffiyeh.
Her remains are expected to be transported to Turkey.
Eygi, 26, held dual citizenship in Turkey and the US.
She was shot dead by Israeli forces during a protest on Friday against illegal Israeli settlements in the town of Beita, located in the occupied West Bank.
Earlier on Monday, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli confirmed that efforts are underway to return Eygi’s body to her family.
“We continue the necessary work to deliver the body of our citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, to her family for burial,” Keceli wrote on X.
The Israeli military has yet to release details about the incident or autopsy findings.
Eygi's killing has drawn parallels to the death of American-Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was murdered in a similar manner in 2022.
