Skau met Yunus at a hotel in the Italian capital, according to a statement from the chief adviser’s office.
During the meeting, Skau said the Rohingya remain one of the UN agency’s top priorities, emphasizing the urgent need for additional funding.
He reaffirmed the WFP’s commitment to providing food assistance to the 1.3 million Rohingya refugees living in Cox’s Bazar district, most of whom fled Myanmar’s military crackdown in 2017.
Both sides discussed potential new funding sources, including contributions from wealthy nations and multilateral financial institutions.
Skau noted that, following new humanitarian commitments from the United States and the United Kingdom, the WFP would maintain its $12 monthly food stipend for each refugee.
Earlier this year, the WFP halved food rations for the Rohingya due to a severe funding shortfall linked to reduced support from the US administration to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a major donor.
The two officials also discussed famine conditions in Gaza and Sudan and the global struggle to secure funds to address hunger affecting tens of millions of people.
Skau added that the WFP continues efforts to send hundreds of food trucks into Gaza as global food insecurity impacts nearly 300 million people.
