Palestinian sources stated that Hamza Adwan, a Palestinian prisoner, died due to the negligence of Israeli prison officials regarding his health and insufficient access to medical care.
This incident comes amid reports of a rising number of Palestinian prisoners dying in Israeli prisons, particularly since Operation Al-Aqsa and the start of Israeli genocidal war in Gaza.
Last week, the Palestinian prisoners' media office in Gaza announced that 86 Palestinian prisoners have been killed in Israeli prisons since October 2023.
“Since 1967, 323 Palestinian prisoners have been martyred in the prisons of the occupying regime, and this statistic demonstrates a significant increase in the severity of crimes committed against prisoners,” a statement from Palestinian officials said.
Palestinian officials have vowed to pursue the cases of prisoners through international, regional, and domestic channels, seeking to halt these organized crimes and secure the release of prisoners.
The officials urged international and human rights organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, to investigate the situation of prisoners and intervene to end the suffering and rights violations.
Furthermore, they called on Palestinian authorities to initiate prosecutions of those responsible for acts of torture and sexual assault against prisoners at the International Criminal Court, citing available documentation and testimonies.
