In comments on Wednesday, Esmaeil Baqaei denounced the US’ decision to impose higher trade tariffs on the economic partners of Iran.
The fact that people of Iran have been suffering from the cruel and illegal economic pressures and sanctions imposed by the US and its allies for decades reveals the depth of the American decision makers’ aversion to Iran, he said.
Pointing to the illegal and inhumane nature of the US economic sanctions against Iran, Baqaei said they run counter to the UN Charter and the international law, particularly the principles of free international trade among the governments.
“The US’ economic sanctions amount to crime against humanity for violating and transgressing the fundamental rights of all Iranian citizens,” he added, stressing that those imposing sanctions on Iran must be held accountable for the consequences of such atrocities.
The spokesman also warned against the dire impacts of the US’ unilateral coercive measures on the international trade system, reminding the international organizations, especially the UN secretary general, of their responsibilities to protect the rule of law at the global level.
