Esmaeil Baqaei said at a press conference on Monday that while threats are inherently incompatible with diplomacy, Iran has consistently demonstrated a steadfast commitment to a diplomatic approach aimed at protecting national interests and maintaining peace and security in the region.
He noted that discussions about the framework of potential talks are ongoing, and that messages have been exchanged through regional countries acting as intermediaries, with Iran now reviewing the details.
Baqaei added that regarding reports of talks in Turkey in the coming days, Iran is currently examining the general and specific elements of advancing the diplomatic process.
He said regional countries have intensified their efforts as honest intermediaries, and Iran is carefully weighing all aspects, including the importance of timing.
The spokesman cautioned that in past negotiations, the other side has at times exploited talks, and emphasized that every day sanctions are lifted sooner constitutes a tangible gain for Iran.
On the objectives of the negotiations, Baqaei stressed that sanctions relief is a core priority. He recalled that Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi recently stated that the nuclear issue has long been misused as a pretext for imposing conflict on Iran, and added that in exchange for confidence-building regarding the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, the country’s primary demand is the removal of unjust sanctions.
