Shamkhani: Iran’s Missile Capability outside Purview of Nuclear Negotiators

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s missile capability is not a subject that falls within the authority of nuclear negotiators, Secretary of Iran’s Defense Council Ali Shamkhani said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of rallies marking the anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran on Wednesday, Shamkhani stated that commanders of the Armed Forces have repeatedly declared that any military aggression against Iran, even if limited, would be tantamount to the start of a war.

He warned that such a war would not remain confined to a specific geography or limited to two sides.

Given the sensitive region in which it would occur, he said, it would not merely involve military matters but, considering the region’s energy capacity, would inevitably affect multiple global factors and impact the lives of people around the world.

Shamkhani described it as rational for the other side to seriously pursue the path of negotiations that has begun, rather than treating it as a mere display.

Asked about the possibility of Iran’s missile power being raised by the other side during the negotiations, he stressed that the country’s missile capability is not an issue placed at the disposal of the negotiators.

The most recent round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States was held in Muscat on February 6 with Oman mediating the talks.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US special envoy Steve Witkoff represented Tehran and Washington in the talks.
