In a message on X on Thursday, Esmaeil Baqaei reacted to remarks by Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who has claimed that Tehran’s strategy is to “sow chaos and set the region on fire” and accused Iran of “indiscriminately attacking its neighbors,” warning that the future direction of the country was unpredictable.
Baqaei wrote, "This is hypocrisy and a blatant double standard. The EU has lost its moral and political compass, repeatedly choosing to appease aggressors and war criminals instead of standing up to them. Kaja Kallas should acknowledge that Iran is under attack by brutal aggressors and has every right under international law to defend its people. Iran is not indiscriminately targeting its neighbors; it is striking the assets and military bases used to carry out attacks against it."
The United States and Zionist regime have launched an unprovoked deadly military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei as well as senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The Iranian Armed Forces have carried out harsh retaliatory strikes, hitting the US and Israeli targets in the occupied territories and the regional countries with a barrage of missiles and drones.
According to Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, funerals have already been held for 1,230 Iranians martyred in the attacks as of March 5, illustrating the grave humanitarian impact of the campaign.
