Iran Targeting US Bases Based on Legitimate Right to Self‑Defense: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran targets US bases in the region based on its legitimate right to self-defense.

Iran has no intention of engaging in conflict with regional countries, Pezeshkian added in a phone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stressing that any strikes on US bases would be carried out strictly within the framework of the Islamic Republic’s right to self‑defense.

The two sides discussed recent regional developments and bilateral relations during the conversation.

Pezeshkian congratulated the government and people of Pakistan on the holy month of Ramadan and wished peace and tranquility for Muslim nations.

Referring to recent developments, the Iranian president said the country was engaged in serious negotiations to resolve issues when it was for the second time targeted by US-Israeli military aggression. He said the attacks targeted civilian infrastructure, public places, hospitals and schools, claiming that 168 students were killed in one such strike on a school in the southern city of Minab.

Pezeshkian said the attackers had misused the airspace of neighboring countries to carry out strikes against Iran, adding that any bases used as a launching point for attacks on Iranian territory would be targeted under the country’s legitimate right to self‑defense.

He also warned that failure by international organizations to address the main causes of the conflict could undermine global security.

Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s condemnation of US and Israeli attacks on Iran and expressed solidarity with Tehran. He offered condolences over the martyrdom of the former Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and congratulated the election of Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new leader.

Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral ties and continuing high‑level diplomatic consultations.
