Iran's Diplomatic Outreach: FM Reassures Qatar amid Counterattacks on US Bases

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Quelling concerns following Iran’s missile attacks on US bases in Qatar, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reaffirmed Tehran's commitment to nurturing amicable ties with regional neighbors, attributing the tensions to external military aggression.

In a telephone conversation on Monday, Araqchi and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed the latest developments in the region and the consequences of the military aggression by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran, as well as the bilateral relations between Tehran and Doha.

The Qatari foreign minister reiterated his country's principled position against the use of force and emphasized the importance of respecting Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also stressed the necessity of an immediate cessation of war and the return of stability and security to the region.

For his part, Araqchi emphasized Iran's commitment to maintaining and promoting friendly relations with regional countries, including Qatar.

He stated that the current situation is solely a result of the military aggression by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran, as well as the misuse of US bases and military assets in regional countries to carry out military aggression against Iran. Araqchi expressed hope that the countries of the region would strive for peace and security that is both collective and endogenous.

The Iranian foreign minister also detailed the crimes committed by the US and the Zionist regime against the Iranian people, asserting Iran's unwavering resolve to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Araqchi stated that the heinous war crimes committed by the US and the Israeli regime, particularly the attacks on schools, universities, hospitals, industrial and production infrastructure, and nuclear facilities, must be prosecuted and punished in domestic courts and international tribunals.

The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of then Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.

The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
