Iran Not Seeking War, Exercising Self-Defense: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is not pursuing war and has no intention of initiating conflict, President Masoud Pezeshkian said, stressing that the country’s actions are solely in legitimate self-defense.

During a visit to the Ministry of Sports and Youth on Sunday, Pezeshkian underlined Iran’s principled approach toward maintaining regional peace, stability, and security, stating that the country has not attacked any nation and does not intend to take aggressive action.

He rejected portrayals of Iran as war-seeking, describing the country as peace-oriented and asserting that its response mirrors the natural reaction of any nation defending itself against aggression.

The president said the performance of Iran’s Armed Forces in the face of the US-Israeli war of aggression and threats has surprised many analysts, noting that the country has managed to stand firm against major powers despite challenges.

He added that the enemies, having failed to achieve their objectives, have resorted to targeting civilian infrastructure in violation of international law, including schools, hospitals, universities, and public facilities.

Pezeshkian described such actions as signs of desperation and failure, stressing that attacks on civilians and non-military centers are unjustifiable and contradict claims about human rights and democracy.

He further denounced contradictory narratives by adversaries, saying claims of seeking Iran’s progress are at odds with statements about destroying the country’s civilization and pushing it backward.

The president also condemned Western double standards in the international arena, arguing that claims regarding human rights and democracy should be judged against the actions of the United States and the Israeli regime in the region.
