In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Araqchi and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani discussed regional developments and the security, legal, and economic consequences of the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.
Araqchi outlined the actions carried out by the US and the Zionist regime during the recent attacks, stressing that all countries bear responsibility to condemn such clear violations of the United Nations Charter and international law.
He described the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz as a direct result of unlawful and unilateral US military actions against a sovereign UN member state, adding that Iran, as a coastal state, has adopted measures in accordance with international law to safeguard its national security against threats and aggression.
Araqchi also stated that responsibility for the global economic consequences of the situation lies with the aggressors.
The Iranian foreign minister further described European countries’ silence regarding the attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities as unacceptable, warning that such approaches contribute to the erosion of international law and the non-proliferation regime due to Europe’s double standards.
The two senior diplomats also discussed developments in Lebanon and emphasized the need to respect the ceasefire.
For his part, the Italian foreign minister highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region and expressed Rome’s readiness to help strengthen stability across the region.
