Iran Dismisses Speculations on Uranium Enrichment Details

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei rejected media speculation about negotiations on details related to Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and enriched materials, saying Tehran is currently focused solely on ending the US-Israeli war.

Speaking at his weekly press conference on Monday, Baqaei said Iran has received the US response to Tehran’s proposal through Pakistan, but declined to discuss details, criticizing Washington’s “endless habit of excessive and unlimited demands”.

He said Iran is dealing with a party that constantly changes its positions, adding that issues raised in the media regarding nuclear details are mostly speculation.

According to the spokesman, such speculation is based on the history of previous negotiations that focused exclusively on nuclear issues.

Baqaei said matters related to uranium enrichment and uranium materials are merely speculative at this stage, stressing that Iran is currently discussing nothing other than a complete halt to the US-Israeli war of aggression.

Decisions about the future direction of talks would be made later, he stated.

Asked by Tasnim about Iran’s rationale for negotiating with a party that behaves abnormally, the spokesman said the Foreign Ministry’s duty is to pursue Iran’s rights.

He noted that although Iran is facing a party with unconventional behavior, this only makes Tehran’s responsibilities heavier, adding that confronting such an enemy requires serious action and that diplomacy with the US is conducted under such conditions.

The spokesman further said the Foreign Ministry, relying on the legitimacy of Iran’s demands, is making every effort to secure the country’s rights. He stressed that Iran will certainly use every available tool to secure its interests.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Baqaei reacted to claims made by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi against Iran.

He said that a review of the history shows it was the US that withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and committed aggression against Iran.

Baqaei noted that the IAEA chief himself had been part of the negotiation process on two occasions and had personally witnessed Washington’s contradictory behavior.

The only obstacle preventing negotiations from reaching a conclusion has been the conduct of the US, he stated.
