Iran Plans to Expand Alternative Trade Corridors via Neighbors, Northern Ports

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered the expansion of alternative trade corridors through the country’s northern ports and neighboring countries in order to ensure the continued supply of essential goods and medicine.

Economy

During a Friday meeting on accelerating the supply of essential goods, medicine, and the management of alternative import routes, attended by economic ministers, the governor of the Central Bank of Iran, and relevant officials, the need to maximize the country’s logistical, trade, and economic diplomacy capacities to preserve market stability and maintain supply chains was emphasized.

The meeting reviewed the latest situation regarding the supply and import of essential goods, medicine, and required inputs in light of restrictions created at some southern entry points following the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.

Pezeshkian stressed the need to make maximum use of the capacities of Iran’s northern ports, develop alternative trade corridors, and utilize the capacities of neighboring countries, including Pakistan, Russia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan, to supply and import some needed items. The president also called for accelerating the implementation of related agreements in this field.

The president further emphasized the need for the Foreign Ministry to more actively employ the country’s economic diplomacy capacities, saying all political, economic, and regional capabilities must be used to facilitate the purchase, transportation, clearance, and entry of essential goods and medicine so that no disruption occurs in meeting the people’s needs.

Pezeshkian also stated that if necessary, he would personally hold consultations with leaders of neighboring countries and regional partners to remove possible obstacles to the supply and transfer of essential goods and medicine as quickly as possible.
