Iran Expands Transport Capacity with Neighbors: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Coordination has been made with neighboring states to increase Iran’s transportation capacity and ensure the uninterrupted flow of imports and exports during and after the US-Israeli war of aggression, the minister of Roads and Urban Development said.

Speaking at a virtual parliamentary session on Sunday, Farzaneh Sadeq Malvajerd said reconstruction efforts have continued throughout the US-Israeli military attacks and during the ceasefire period because transportation and logistics infrastructure, including tunnels and other facilities, had come under attack.

She said more than 50 locations, including freeways, highways, tunnels and bridges, were targeted by the US and the Zionist regime, with some tunnels struck more than once.

Five major railway bridges were also hit, which she described as a clear attempt to disrupt Iran’s east-west transit corridor and hinder the movement of goods into the country.

Despite the attacks, the minister said, damaged infrastructure was restored in the shortest possible time, with some reconstruction projects completed within two weeks.

She noted that Iran’s southern ports have effectively been on the front line of a “corridor war,” prompting authorities to take measures to ensure that imports and exports, particularly of essential goods, would continue without interruption.

She added that consultations have been held with neighboring countries to expand transportation fleets and strengthen logistics operations.

Sadeq also warned that the shadow of war still persists and said the country remains on a wartime footing. Nevertheless, she noted that three months after the start of the conflict, essential goods remain abundantly available across Iran.
