Urdu-Speaking Pilgrims Attend Eid al-Ghadeer Celebrations at Imam Reza Shrine

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A special event marking Eid al-Ghadeer was held for Urdu-speaking pilgrims and residents at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad, the director of non-Iranian pilgrims affairs at the Astan Quds Razavi said.

Mahdi Lesani announced that, coinciding with Eid al-Ghadeer and with the aim of explaining the significance of Wilayah (guardianship) and commemorating the auspicious occasion, a special celebration program was organized for Urdu-speaking pilgrims at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

He said the event was held on June 4 and 5 at the Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine and welcomed Urdu-speaking pilgrims of Pakistani and Indian nationalities.

The director of non-Iranian pilgrims affairs at the Astan Quds Razavi added that the ceremony featured the performance of religious hymns by the “Eighth Sun” choir group and included a speech by an Urdu-speaking religious scholar for the participants.

Lesani expressed hope that such programs would provide greater opportunities for non-Iranian pilgrims to benefit from the teachings of Ghadeer and the culture of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).

Eid al-Ghadeer is also referred to as Eid al-Akbar (the Greatest Eid) in Islamic narrations, since Muslims are of the opinion that the mission of all the previous messengers of Allah became accomplished on this day.

On March 10, 632 CE, in the tenth year of Hijra, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) received a revelation from God, ordering him to halt his last Hajj pilgrimage known as the Hajjat-ul-Wida (the Farewell Pilgrimage) at a pond called Khum, near Mecca, and to designate Imam Ali (AS) as his successor in guiding and ruling Muslims. The event took place a few months before the demise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
