Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Mo’meni held a meeting with Yermekbayev on the sidelines of the meeting of interior and public security ministers of SCO member states in Bishkek.

During the meeting, Mo’meni thanked the organizers for hosting the gathering and highlighted the strategic importance of the SCO.

With member states accounting for nearly 50 percent of the world's population and possessing vast economic capacities and opportunities, the organization can play a highly effective role in international developments, the Iranian minster added.

He noted that, given that security issues constitute one of the key objectives of the organization, it is very important for member states to adopt clear positions during critical moments.

For his part, Yermekbayev expressed solidarity with the government and people of Iran and noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization had issued four statements in support of Iran during the US-Israeli war.

The SCO secretary general also voiced hope that peace would be restored as soon as possible.
