In a message posted in Spanish language on his X account on Wednesday, Baqaei commended Mexico’s treatment of football teams and visitors during the World Cup, describing hospitality and respect as the true measures of a host country’s credibility. He also criticized the US for inappropriate conduct and the politicization of sporting events.
“Wonderful! Keep it up, Mexico. Football is a platform for healthy competition and for bringing nations closer together, not an excuse to open Pandora’s box of old resentments and unleash deeply rooted complexes,” he said.
“The World Cup is intended as a celebration, not as an opportunity to humiliate and discriminate against other nations,” Baqaei said, referring to the US’ mistreatment of footballers.

“While troubling reports continue to emerge about inappropriate and disrespectful treatment of players, referees, and guests at entry points into the United States, the warm and courteous welcome offered by the Mexican people to football teams serves as a powerful reminder of a simple truth: outstanding hospitality is defined by human conduct and by the ability to make guests feel genuinely welcomed and valued,” he said.
“The true credibility of a host country is measured not only by sports facilities or political grandstanding, but by the quality of treatment extended to those who come to the country out of love for football,” the Iranian spokesman added.
