TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Technical negotiations between Iran and the US on mechanisms for carrying out the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and the formation of related technical working groups are set to begin in Switzerland today, June 22.

The expert-level negotiations between Iran and the US will be led by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, while the main Iranian negotiating delegation has already departed Switzerland for Tehran.

The technical discussions are expected to focus on arrangements for carrying out commitments envisaged under the Islamabad MoU and advancing the work of specialized groups established as part of the ongoing diplomatic process.

The new round of expert talks follows the conclusion of nearly 18 hours of intensive negotiations and consultations in Switzerland involving the main Iranian delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf. During those meetings, the Iranian side participated in bilateral and quadrilateral consultations attended by the US delegation as well as Pakistani and Qatari mediators and outlined Tehran’s positions on implementing the memorandum of understanding and the conditions for entering negotiations on a final agreement.

Following the talks, Qatar and Pakistan announced in a joint statement that the parties had agreed on a 60-day roadmap toward reaching a final agreement, the establishment of specialized working groups, and the continuation of technical negotiations. The mediators also said the process includes mechanisms for monitoring implementation, maintaining communication channels, and addressing related regional issues in support of diplomacy and de-escalation.
