In a bilateral meeting on Thursday, Pezeshkian and al-Zaidi, who is visiting Tehran at the head of a high-ranking delegation, discussed and exchanged views on the most important issues of concern to the two countries and strategies for developing and deepening bilateral relations.
The two sides highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq, and stressed the necessity of preserving and strengthening this valuable capital as a basis for expanding strategic cooperation.
They also referred to the joint agreements between the two countries and considered the acceleration of the full implementation of these agreements as an important step towards enhancing relations and securing mutual benefits, and emphasized the need to activate joint capacities in the political, economic, trade, transit, energy, and regional cooperation fields.
Stressing the importance of continuous convergence and coordination, they assessed the opening of new horizons of cooperation as a strategic necessity for the future of Tehran-Baghdad relations, and stated that the development of comprehensive relations, in addition to strengthening the stability, security, and prosperity of the two countries, will also play a role in securing the interests of the two brotherly nations and strengthening regional solidarity and cohesion.
