In a statement issued on Sunday night, the ministry said Haniyeh, whom it described as the courageous leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and a pioneering fighter for the freedom and dignity of Palestine, was assassinated two years ago by the "occupying and genocidal executioners."
The ministry said the Islamic Republic of Iran, alongside the global front of resistance against oppression, occupation and colonialism and in solidarity with the steadfast Palestinian people, honors Haniyeh's memory and reaffirms the legitimacy of the struggle against the Zionist regime until the Palestinian nation's right to self-determination is realized, occupied Palestine is liberated, and an independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital is established.
It added that preserving the memory of Haniyeh and other resistance martyrs would ensure the continuation of efforts toward the liberation of al-Quds, the removal of the effects of occupation and discrimination, and the strengthening of the culture of resistance among Muslim nations and freedom-seeking people around the world.
The Foreign Ministry also paid tribute to all martyrs of resistance, particularly Haniyeh, and stressed the need for immediate and effective action by the international community and the Islamic Ummah to ease the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
The statement further emphasized the legal and moral responsibility of all governments to confront the impunity of the Zionist regime and to bring those responsible for genocide to justice and punishment.
