In a post on his X account on Sunday, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf used irony to mock the failure of Trump’s economic plans, drawing a parallel between Washington’s decision to ease tariffs on imported beef and its broader economic approach toward Iran.
“Importing frozen meat to fix meat prices. Okay, that might work. What’s the plan for bonds, import frozen yields? Frozen homebuyers for housing? Frozen paychecks for wages?” he wrote.
“A frozen foreign policy delivers a frozen economy. The only thing still moving? The Iran boomerang,” Qalibaf added.
His remarks came as Trump’s decision to allow up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef imports without out-of-quota tariffs drew criticism from Republican lawmakers and US cattle producers. Several Republicans from major cattle-producing states warned that flooding the US market with cheaper foreign beef could undermine American ranchers and hinder efforts to rebuild the country’s shrinking cattle herd.
The Republican criticism has provided additional context for Qalibaf’s mockery of Trump’s economic approach, as even members of the president’s own party have questioned whether his measures offer sustainable solutions to rising prices.
