The farewell ceremony for Iran’s delegation was held at the National Olympic Academy on Saturday night in the presence of Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth and the President of the National Olympic Committee, along with senior sports officials, heads of sports federations, athletes, coaches and national team management staff.
The 20th Asian Games, the continent’s largest multisport event, will be hosted by Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
Iran will participate with a delegation of 312 athletes — 215 men and 97 women — competing in 50 sports.
The 2026 Asian Games will mark Iran’s 18th appearance at the prestigious continental sporting event.
The ceremony also centered on the memory of the Iranian student martyred in Shajareh-ye Tayyebeh School during a US-Israeli strike in Minab on February 28. Part of the venue at the National Olympic Academy was dedicated to backpacks symbolizing the Minab martyrs.
Some family members of the Minab martyrs also attended the ceremony, where five saplings were planted in their presence.
Iran’s delegation at the 20th Asian Games has been named “Minab Angels of Shajareh-ye Tayyebeh.”
