Masoud Pezeshkian and Ali Faleh al-Zaidi held talks on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, discussing bilateral relations, the implementation of existing agreements and major regional and international developments.
The two sides reviewed the progress of Tehran-Baghdad relations and reaffirmed their shared determination to deepen cooperation across various fields. They also examined the latest status of agreements and understandings reached between Iran and Iraq, the website of the Iranian president’s website reported.
Pezeshkian and al-Zaidi stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of joint agreements and projects, remove obstacles and make greater use of the two countries’ economic, trade, energy, transportation and infrastructure capacities, as well as other areas of mutual interest.
The Iranian president and Iraqi prime minister also exchanged views on recent regional developments, including the consequences of recent US and Israeli military aggression against Iran and their effects on regional stability and security.
They also sides emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and using the capacities of regional countries to manage crises, reduce tensions and establish regional mechanisms for security. They also identified the presence of foreign military forces and external interventions as factors contributing to greater security challenges and instability in the region.
Both officials further stressed the continuation of political and diplomatic consultations between Tehran and Baghdad and closer coordination on regional and international developments.
