Whitaker made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Saturday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
He praised Iran’s steadfastness and resistance in the face of US and Israeli military aggression, stressing the international community’s responsibility to counter US unilateralism and violations of international law around the world, including in Latin America.
For his part, Araqchi appreciated Nicaragua’s responsible approach to international developments, particularly its condemnation of US-Israeli military aggression against Iran and its continued opposition to occupation and genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He also stressed Iran’s solidarity with Nicaragua in confronting illegal US policies and intervention.
Araqchi then outlined war crimes committed by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran, as well as the continuation of sanctions, stressing that Iran would firmly resist the excessive demands and bullying of Washington and the Israeli regime.
The two foreign ministers also reviewed bilateral relations and emphasized their countries’ determination to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
