Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traore in New York on Sunday, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The two officials discussed bilateral relations as well as developments in the Sahel and West Asia regions.
Araqchi thanked Traore for attending a ceremony honoring martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and expressed appreciation for Burkina Faso’s principled positions and the solidarity and sympathy shown by its people toward the Iranian nation in the face of US-Israeli military aggression.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed Iran’s determination to expand relations with African countries, particularly members of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), and expressed hope that a joint meeting between Iran and the three AES member states would be held at the earliest opportunity.
Araqchi also reiterated Iran’s principled support for the independence and national sovereignty of all countries, declaring France’s pressure and “illegal interference” in the internal affairs of African states “unacceptable” and condemning such actions.
For his part, Traore welcomed the growing relations between Burkina Faso and Iran and stressed his country’s determination, along with other AES members, to further strengthen ties and cooperation with Tehran.
