Araqchi and Al Hussein, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, held talks in New York on Monday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, Araqchi referred to the main philosophy behind the establishment of the United Nations, namely respect for the national sovereignty of countries and preventing war and the use of force in relations among states.
He said restoring trust in the UN requires member states, particularly the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter.
Araqchi outlined developments over the past two years concerning Iran’s nuclear issue and described the US and Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran in the midst of negotiations as a blatant violation of international peace and security.
He also stressed the responsibility of the United Nations and all countries to explicitly oppose flagrant violations of international law as well as crimes committed by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran.
“The insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is the result of the interventionist and illegal actions of the US and the Israeli regime,” Araqchi said, stressing that the international community should hold them accountable for all the humanitarian, security and economic consequences of those actions.
The member of The Elders, for his part, stressed the importance of the rule of law and adherence by all countries, particularly major powers, to the UN Charter and international law.
Al Hussein also condemned the unlawful use of force and aggression against countries and emphasized the need for all states to pay greater attention to the UN Charter.
