Pezeshkian made the remarks during a ceremony to receive the credentials of India’s new ambassador to Iran, stressing the two countries’ longstanding, historical and friendly relations and calling for the implementation of agreements and understandings reached during his recent visit to India.
Referring to his recent trip to India and the warm reception by Indian officials, the president said extensive and constructive talks had been held with senior Indian officials, resulting in important understandings between the two sides.
He also pointed to cooperation between Iran and India within the BRICS framework, saying good understandings have been reached in the group that should be pursued and expanded more seriously, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation and strengthening multilateralism.
Pezeshkian said the two countries could use their Joint Economic Commission to lay the groundwork for a roadmap for long-term strategic cooperation between Iran and India.
The Iranian president stressed the importance of expanding Iran-India relations at both bilateral and regional levels, saying closer ties and cooperation between the two countries would serve not only their interests but also regional peace, stability and security.
Iran is interested in long-term engagement and relations with India in all fields, Pezeshkian noted, adding that the two countries’ historical ties provide a strong foundation for deepening and expanding cooperation.
