The Parliament reviewed Akhlaqi’s qualifications and proposed plans during its online session on Sunday, chaired by Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
At the outset, reports by the parliamentary committees on National Security and Foreign Policy, and Industries and Mines, concerning the nominee’s plans were read out.
Lawmakers who opposed and supported Akhlaqi’s proposed plans then delivered their speeches, after which the nominee defended his programs and outlined his priorities.
Following the debate, lawmakers approved his appointment by a majority, making him Iran’s new defense minister and successor to the late General Aziz Nasirzadeh.
Akhlaqi is the 15th minister of defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
