Funeral Held for Bahraini Protester after 75 Days

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Dozens of thousands of Bahrainis took part in a massive funeral held for the protester killed by the Manama regime security forces in April.

The mourners demanded the trial of those who killed the 27-year-old Abdul-Aziz al-Abbar in Sa’ar, a residential area west of the capital Manama.

Al-Alam television network reported that the participants in the funeral also marched in Sanabes Village, a few miles from the capital Manama. The angry protesters chanted anti-regime slogans and demanded the Al Khalifa regime to stop bloodshed.

The protesters emphasized that the continuation of bloodshed and keeping the criminals hidden is the formal procedure Saudi-backed Al Khalifa regime is using in response to peaceful protests.

Al-Abbar, the father of two, was shot in the head by police during clashes following the funeral of another protester on 23 February 2014.

He remained in hospital for 55 days before passing away on April 18 as a result of his injures. The authorities had refused to issue a proper death certificate sighting the death cause as gunfire until recently. Al-Abbar is the 3rd protester to be killed in police shooting this year.

An uprising broke out in Bahrain in mid-February 2011. The protesters initially called for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy, but the regime’s heavy-handed crackdown on them soon prompted an outright call for the ouster of Al Khalifa regime.

From the outset of protests, demonstrators have been met with overwhelming military force leading to scores of deaths.
