Yemen Government Confidence Vote Derailed

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A Yemeni official says the speaker of parliament ended a raucous session after loyalists of the ousted president derailed a vote of confidence on the new government's program.

Other Media

Loyalists of ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who form the majority in parliament, are at loggerheads with President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

They accuse Hadi of backing UN sanctions against Saleh and allied rebel leaders and had called on the government to explicitly denounce them. The government, headed by Khaled Bahah, has not.

In Tuesday's session, the official said ruling party members didn't openly decline to vote for the government program. Instead, disputes broke out about internal party affairs, forcing the speaker of the house to call off the session.

The official spoke anonymously because he wasn't authorized to brief reporters, AP reported.
