In a message addressed to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday, Rahmon extended his sincere congratulations to both the Iranian president and people on reaching a peace agreement with the United States.
The Tajik president said he recognized that achieving such an important agreement had not been easy for the Iranian nation and was the result of extensive efforts and strong determination.
He expressed the belief that the understandings reached would play a key role in ensuring lasting and comprehensive peace in West Asia, strengthening the international security system, and creating favorable conditions for sustainable economic and social development.
Rahmon stated that Tajikistan, as a peace-oriented country that supports resolving disputes and conflicts through negotiations and diplomatic dialogue, welcomed the development.
The message came after Iran and the US signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in the first minutes of June 18, 2026, through a simultaneous digital process conducted by President Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump without an in-person ceremony.
According to Iranian officials, the memorandum serves as a political framework aimed at ending the imposed US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic and opening a path toward a comprehensive final agreement following weeks of negotiations.
Under the document, the parties agreed to the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations involving Iran, the US, and their respective allies across all fronts, including Lebanon, while committing to avoid future military action and threats of force. The memorandum also outlines a phased process for easing restrictions affecting Iran’s economy and maritime activity, establishes a framework for negotiations on nuclear-related issues under mutually agreed mechanisms and International Atomic Energy Agency supervision, and envisages completion of a final agreement within 60 days that would ultimately be formalized through a binding UN Security Council resolution.
