Crew of Iranian Vessel Seized by US Back Home

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Fifteen Iranian crew members of the container ship Touska, which had been seized by the US military forces, were repatriated to Iran through the Rimdan border crossing in the country’s southeast.

The 15 Iranian crew members of Touska container vessel, who had been transferred to Pakistan following recent incidents in international waters, entered Iranian territory on Monday noon through the Rimdan border terminal in Sistan and Balouchestan Province.

The governor of the border county of Dashtiari said that with the arrival of the 15-member group and after completion of legal procedures, all Iranian crew members of the container ship have now returned to the country.

A number of family members of the vessel’s crew had previously returned to Iran.

In an act of piracy, the US recently hijacked the Iranian container ship Touska, which was bound for Iran with 28 Iranian crew members on board.

Iran had announced that it refrained from sending troops to free the ship due to the presence of Iranian crew members and their families.

However, Iran moved to secure their freedom through official channels, and conducted necessary measures to that end.

The US Navy attacked Touska while it was sailing from China to Iran, subsequently taking control of the vessel. The US Central Command claimed the ship was heading toward the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas and alleged that it ignored repeated warnings over a six-hour period to vacate its engine room.
