6 Iranian Crew Members of Touska Vessel Released Following Iran’s Efforts

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Six Iranian crew members of the Touska container ship were released after efforts made by Iran to secure their freedom, according to information obtained by Tasnim on Wednesday.

In an apparent act of piracy, the terrorist administration of the United States recently hijacked the Iranian container ship Touska, which was bound for Iran with 28 Iranian crew members on board.

Iran had also announced that it has refrained from sending troops to free the ship at this stage due to the presence of Iranian crew members and their families.

However, Iran was planning to secure their freedom through official channels, and conducted necessary measures to that end.

A Tasnim reporter has learned that thanks to the follow-up efforts carried out by Iran, 6 Iranian crew members have been released at this stage and are currently in Iran.

Iran’s efforts for the freedom of the other 22 Iranian crew members, who are currently held hostage by the terrorist administration of the United States, are underway.

Earlier, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters said military response to an American naval attack on Iranian container vessel Touska in the Gulf of Oman has been postponed to ensure the safety of the crew’s families.

The statement added that once the safety of the families and crew members is fully ensured, Iran’s Armed Forces will carry out the necessary action against the “terrorist US military.”

The US Navy attacked the Iranian container ship Touska while it was sailing from China to Iran, subsequently taking control of the vessel. The US Central Command claimed the ship was heading toward the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas and alleged that it ignored repeated warnings over a six-hour period to vacate its engine room.

Following the attack, Iranian military forces launched drone strikes toward several US military vessels in the area in response.

The development comes amid a standoff in the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for the shipment of about a fifth of the world’s oil, amid threats from a US blockade on ships heading to and from Iranian ports.
