Iran has a medical and sanitary cargo ready to be sent to Yemen, and will dispatch it by air or sea as soon as the grounds are prepared, Shahabuddin Mohammadi Araqi said on Tuesday.

Mohammadi Araqi, who is the deputy head of IRCS in international and humanitarian rights affairs, explained that the cargo mainly contains medicine and medical equipment.

The cargo has been prepared in coordination with and based on the needs declared by Yemen's Red Crescent and the country's health ministry, he added.

He went on to say that the aid cargos that have been sent or are due to be dispatched are mainly provided through public donations.

In May, an Iranian cargo ship dispatched 2,500 tons of food and medical supplies for Yemenis via Djibouti, where the United Nations oversees humanitarian deliveries.

Since March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been conducting deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to Yemen's Freedom House Foundation, the Saudi airstrikes have claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Yemeni people so far while more than 7,000 others have been wounded, most of them civilians.
