Coronavirus in Iran: Total Cases Top 320,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Iran has exceeded 320,000, of whom more than 277,000 have recovered from the disease, the Health Ministry said.

Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said at a press conference on Thursday that the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country has risen to 320,117 after the detection of 2,634 new cases since yesterday.

She noted that 277,463 patients have recovered from coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from the hospital.

According to Lari, the coronavirus death toll in Iran now stands at 17,976 following the death of 174 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in the hospital at present, 4,156 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, she said.

She also noted that nearly 2,613,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

More than 19 million people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, and the death toll has exceeded 711,000.
