TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif is going to travel to Tajikistan for a ministerial meeting of the Heart of Asia initiative, a platform for promoting peace and security in Afghanistan and the region.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a tweet on Sunday that Zarif will visit Dushanbe on March 29 and 30 to hold meetings with Tajik officials and take part in the ministerial meeting of the member states of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process.

The common civilizational, historical and cultural heritage has created unbreakable bonds between Iran and Tajikistan, which share religion and language, the spokesman added.

The 9th annual ministerial meeting of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process will take place in Tajikistan.

The Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process is a regional initiative developed by Afghanistan and Turkey, which was launched in November 2011 in Istanbul.

The process aims to promote regional security, economic and political cooperation centered on Afghanistan through dialogue and confidence building measures.
