TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Tehran will continue to stand by the Damascus government and enhance its strategic relations with the Arab nation.

In comments upon his arrival in Damascus on Saturday, Amirabdollahian lauded Iran’s strategic relations with Syria, saying the Islamic Republic will keep working to promote cooperation with Syrians in all fields.

“Syria is on the road to progress and prosperity, and we will stand by the country in the same way that we stood (by it) in the war against terrorism,” he noted.

For his part, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad described his Iranian counterpart’s visit as a significant trip.

He said Syria strongly condemns all American measures in relation to Iran’s nuclear program and to other regional issues.

Syria supports the Iranian officials’ efforts in connection with the nuclear dossier, Mekdad stated.

Amirabdollahian is visiting Syria after trips to Moscow and Beirut, where he held several high-profile meetings on bilateral and regional issues.
