In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Albusaidi talked about a range of regional and international issues, including the Yemen ceasefire and the Vienna talks.

Congratulating the Iranian government and people on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and welcoming the truce in Yemen, Albusaidi thanked Iran’s role and efforts in this regard and expressed hope that the ceasefire would lay the necessary groundwork for talks between the Yemeni factions and the reopening of the country’s borders.

For his part, Amirabdollahian expressed hope that the ceasefire in Yemen would hold, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

He also appreciated Oman’s constructive role in this regard, adding, “Now what is important is the removal of the Saudi-led siege of Yemen in line with the continuation of the truce. Currently, sending relief aid to the people of Yemen is of paramount importance too.”

Commenting on the Vienna talks, Amirabdollahian condemned the US’ move to impose new sanctions on a number of Iranian individuals and companies.

He underlined that Iran is ready for a good and lasting deal, saying the US side is directly responsible for the prolongation of the talks because it is making excessive demands.

The foreign ministers of Iran and Oman also agreed to continue their consultations over issues that are on the agenda of the two countries.
