Transit of Goods via Iran Surges 15% in Six Months: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tracking of the performance of transit of goods via Iran shows a 15 percent hike of the index in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year compared to the same period of last year.

The transit of oil and non-oil goods from March 21 to September 22, 2023 registered a 7.42 and 6.3 percent growth respectively compared to the same period of last year, the deputy of the minister of roads and urban development for transportation affairs stated.

Shahriar Afandizadeh pointed out that the transit of goods via Iranian soil has increased 3.54 percent in the Iranian month of Shahrivar in the current year (August 21 to September 22).

Totally, over 6 million tons of goods were transited from the country from March 21 to September 22, 2023, registering a 15 percent growth compared to the last year’s corresponding period, he added.

In this period, the transit of oil goods via Iran’s territory has witnessed a 7.42 and 52 percent hike compared to 2022 and 2021 respectively, the deputy roads minister stated.

In line with the development of bilateral and multilateral diplomacy of transportation especially with the neighboring states as emphasized by the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi and the minister of roads, it is hoped that transit of oil and non-oil goods will increase in the second half of the current year, he added.
