In a statement on Wednesday, Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned the aggressive attack by the Israeli regime on the city of Sidon and the Palestinian refugee camp Ein el-Hilweh, including the targeting of a mosque and a sports hall, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several Palestinian refugees.
The spokesperson described these “brutal attacks” as a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law. Referring to the repeated violations of the November 2025 ceasefire by the Israeli regime, he underscored the direct responsibility of the US in enabling the continuation of the Zionist regime’s aggressions and crimes against Lebanon and other countries in the region.
Condemning the “approving silence” of the ceasefire guarantors -particularly the US- regarding the persistent breaches and ongoing military attacks by the Zionist regime against Lebanon, the Iranian spokesperson called for serious action by the United Nations and the international community to halt the Israeli regime’s crimes and to hold the perpetrators accountable.
Baqaei also extended condolences to the families of those martyred in the attacks and wished a swift recovery for the wounded, reaffirming Iran’s full solidarity with the government, people, and resistance of Lebanon.
At least 13 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon. The Israeli drone attack hit a car on Tuesday in the car park of a mosque in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp on the outskirts of the coastal city of Sidon.
At least four people were also wounded in the attack.
The Israeli regime claimed it struck members of the Palestinian group Hamas who were operating in a training compound in the refugee camp.
Hamas denied the Zionist regime’s claim, calling it a “fabrication” and stressing the group doesn’t have training facilities in Lebanon’s refugee camps.
Israel has killed several officials from Palestinian factions, including Hamas, in Lebanon since it launched its war on Gaza in October 2023.
