In a telephone conversation on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized Beijing’s unwavering commitment to defending Iran’s legitimate rights, especially within the United Nations Security Council.
Wang highlighted the significance of the 25-year comprehensive cooperation agreement between the two nations.
Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the strong and expanding bilateral ties across multiple fields.
Araqchi briefed Wang on recent internal developments in Iran. He explained that protests initially began as peaceful demonstrations but later escalated due to the involvement of foreign-backed terrorist groups.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to protecting its citizens from terrorism, including Daesh-like groups supported by the Zionist regime and the United States,” he said.
Araqchi commended China’s consistent opposition to terrorism and foreign meddling in Iran’s domestic affairs.
Wang responded by reaffirming that China has always supported Iran’s sovereignty and its right to counter terrorism and external interference.
He pledged that Beijing would continue advocating for Iran’s legitimate positions in international bodies, including the UN Security Council.
Araqchi criticized the United States for its interventionist approach. He specifically condemned the repeated use of economic sanctions and pressure against Iran.
He cited US President Trump’s threats to impose additional tariffs on Iranian trade as a prominent example of such tactics.
“The United States continues to misuse economic tools, including tariffs and sanctions, to apply pressure on developing nations such as Iran and China,” Araqchi said.
He stressed the value of strengthening South-South cooperation to protect the interests of developing countries against external pressures.
Wang endorsed that view and called for strict adherence to international law.
"The world should not return to an era where power is displayed through force. Nations must act responsibly and respect the rights of others," he said.
The ministers also discussed broader security concerns in West Asia.
Araqchi cautioned that further foreign adventurism risked deepening regional instability.
Wang underlined Iran’s crucial role in promoting peace and security across West Asia and restated China’s continued support.
In a separate but related conversation, Araqchi spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan about the situation in Iran and the wider region.
Araqchi reiterated that the recent protests, originally rooted in economic and social concerns, had been intensified by terrorist elements connected to the Zionist regime.
He called for universal condemnation of foreign interference in the internal matters of regional states.
He asserted that Iran, supported by its people, would firmly defend its territorial integrity against any external threats.
Araqchi also denounced provocative statements by US officials and highlighted the responsibility of all regional nations to counter destabilizing policies, including those of the Zionist regime.
Bin Farhan voiced serious concern about the regional situation and the risks of further escalation. He emphasized the critical need to rely on diplomatic channels and regional collaboration to preserve peace and security.
Both foreign ministers agreed on the importance of ongoing consultations and joint efforts to safeguard stability in the region.
They expressed determination to deepen Iran-Saudi relations across areas of shared interest.
