Hamidreza Moqaddamfar made the remarks during a televised program on Monday night in which he reviewed recent developments in Iran and analyzed their causes and dimensions.
Referring to the prevailing analytical atmosphere, Moqaddamfar described Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s remarks as the most comprehensive and complete analysis of the recent sedition. He said the Leader had clearly stated that the main objective of this sedition was the Islamic Republic itself, and that restoring the system of economic, military and cultural domination —or, in the Leader’s words, “devouring the country”— constituted the core axis of the plot.
He emphasized that the recent actions were undoubtedly based on precise planning, noting that over the past six or seven months some had believed the United States and the Israeli regime were keeping Iran in a state of suspension by maintaining the shadow of war.
According to Moqaddamfar, such views led some to consider a military attack inevitable based on observed movements of military and defense forces. However, he said, it was clear that Iran’s enemies, after an unsuccessful experience and facing negative outcomes in military confrontation, would seek new scenarios, and that it was evident the starting point of this new scenario would be the streets, with a focus on economic and livelihood-related protests.
The university professor described the nature of the recent unrest as entirely American and Zionist, pointing to the overt, blatant and unmasked involvement of US and Israeli officials in supporting and organizing the sedition. He said the reason for their open involvement was desperation and haste to compensate for their defeat several months earlier, adding that they had reached a deadlock and were compelled to achieve a new outcome in order to respond to their allies.
Moqaddamfar further said that threats made by US President Donald Trump and the bravado of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stemmed from desperation and fear. He added that a third key component of the sedition was that the enemy entered the arena with full force, seeking to make this movement its final and victorious step. For this reason, he said, all capacities of armed and unarmed opposition groups, separatists and groups with long-dormant potential were mobilized.
He also stated that diplomatic soft warfare was one of the main tools of soft war, adding that one of the primary objectives of the recent sedition was to isolate Iran, create issues in global public opinion and strip the Islamic Republic of Iran of its legal and political legitimacy.
According to Moqaddamfar, the most important element in designing the unrest was “manufacturing casualties and maximum violence.” He said the level of violence in some cases went beyond that of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), noting that despite its crimes, Daesh terrorists did not burn the Holy Quran.
In another part of his remarks, Moqaddamfar said the enemy sought to pave the way for US military intervention by creating casualties, adding that they wanted to portray Trump as avenging the blood of those killed, while in reality they themselves had sacrificed young people and ordinary citizens. He asserted that the majority of those killed were caused by the field operatives of the rioters themselves, saying there was no doubt about this and that images from scenes of unrest clearly demonstrated it.
Moqaddamfar also outlined several main reasons for the failure of the sedition, saying the intelligent performance of Iran’s law enforcement, intelligence and security forces was among the key factors.
He explained that law enforcement forces and the Basij, having understood the scenario of casualty fabrication, were in no way authorized to use live ammunition. Despite this, he said, they themselves became victims of brutal attacks, were martyred, burned and beheaded, while their weapons did not contain live rounds — adding that no country would tolerate organized attacks on its sovereign centers or even on its police officers.
