During an open session of the Parliament on Sunday, a member of the presiding board raised a verbal warning citing Iran’s law on strategic action. Alireza Salimi argued that under the law, the armies of European countries have been classified as terrorist groups and that this designation has already been officially announced and enacted.
Based on this, he said the military attachés of those countries who are present at their embassies in Iran must be expelled as soon as possible, contending that they are considered terrorists under the law.
It is not permissible to grant refuge to terrorism inside Iran or allow such individuals to remain in the country under the title of military attachés, the MP said.
In response to the warning, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said the issue should be followed up by the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. He added that the commission should also pursue the matter in coordination with officials at the Foreign Ministry.
The Parliament on Sunday designated the armies of European countries as terrorist organizations under domestic law, in response to the European Union’s decision to blacklist the IRGC.
