A new round of Iran-US nuclear negotiations, mediated by Oman, ended in the Omani capital on Friday after several hours of indirect talks. The discussions, which began on the morning of February 6 were facilitated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi.
The negotiating delegations of Iran and the US exchanged a range of viewpoints, considerations, and approaches through the Omani foreign minister.
Speaking to IRIB after the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the discussions had been long and intensive, with multiple rounds of indirect meetings held throughout the day.
He said Iran’s positions were clearly conveyed and its concerns were transferred to the US negotiators, describing the talks as a good start overall and noting that a generally positive atmosphere had prevailed.
Araqchi said the continuation of the process would require further consultations in the respective capitals regarding decisions on how to proceed with the negotiations.
He pointed out that deep mistrust formed over the past eight months of conflict, as well as after the 12-day war in June 2025, posed a serious challenge during the talks.
The foreign minister said overcoming this mistrust was necessary before any framework could be designed to safeguard the rights of the Iranian people.
Araqchi added that if the same approach continued on the other side, it would be possible to reach a framework in the next rounds of talks, stressing that this would depend on the conduct of the other party and the decision that will be made by Tehran.
