Araqchi made the remark in a telephone conversation with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday.
He referred to the illegal and unjustified aggression launched by the US and Israeli regime against Iran in the middle of negotiations between Tehran and Washington, noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran has targeted Israeli-occupied territories and US bases in the region in response to this brazen aggression.
Iran is ready to defend itself as long as necessary and will take revenge for the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, he said.
Mirzoyan, for his part, offered condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei and a number of Iranian people, including women and children.
He also expressed his country’s readiness to offer any humanitarian help and hoped that the current situation would be resolved through diplomacy.
