Iran Warns France Against Escalation Amid US-Israeli Aggression

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - In a phone call with his French counterpart, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized the responsibility of all countries to avoid actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region amid the ongoing US and Israeli war of aggression against Iran.

In the telephone conversation on Saturday night, Araqchi and Jean-Noel Barrot talked about the imposed war by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran and the current situation in the region.

The Iranian foreign minister stated that the sole factor and root cause of the prevailing insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz are the United States and the Zionist regime.

Araqchi also stressed the necessity of a responsible approach from all countries towards the current situation and the need for a firm condemnation of the criminal actions of the aggressors in attacking Iran, as well as the importance of refraining from any actions that could escalate and broaden the scope of conflict.

Reiterating Iran's unwavering determination to defend its sovereignty, dignity, territorial integrity, and national security, the foreign minister explained that Iran’s defensive actions are strictly targeted at military bases and facilities of the aggressors in the region and should by no means be interpreted as an attack by Iran on regional countries.

The root cause of insecurity in the entire region, including Lebanon, is the aggression and hegemony of the Zionist regime, Araqchi stated, adding that restoring calm to Lebanon is contingent upon ending the occupation and halting the attacks and aggressions of the Israeli regime.

The two senior diplomats also discussed various consular matters.

The US and the Zionist regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.

The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.

While US President Donald Trump has called on France, China, Japan, South Korea and the UK to send warships “in conjunction with the United States of America” to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and safe,” France’s Minister of Armed Forces and Veteran Affairs, Catherine Vautrin, said Paris has no plans to send naval vessels to the strategic waterway.

In an interview with FRANCE 24, she also stressed that France is not participating in the war in the Middle East.

“At this point, there is no question of sending any vessels to the Strait of Hormuz,” Vautrin said.
