US-Israeli Strikes Hit Petrochemical Plants in Southern Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The US and the Zionist regime carried out airstrikes on Iran’s petrochemical facilities in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on Saturday, targeting the Mahshahr special petrochemical zone and other industrial sites, local officials said.

The deputy governor of Khuzestan Province stated that American and Israeli forces attacked the Mahshahr special petrochemical zone.

According to Valiollah Hayati, at 10:45 am, three explosions occurred in the east and west of Ahvaz, the provincial capital, though no casualties were reported at that time.

Shortly after, at 10:47 am, three more powerful explosions struck the Mahshahr petrochemical area, though the extent of the damage was initially unclear. The official added that the Fajr 1 and 2, Rejal, and Amir Kabir petrochemical plants were directly hit in the attack. He also warned that there was a high likelihood of human casualties, including both injuries and deaths.

Furthermore, at 11:00 am, the Shalamcheh border trade terminal in Khorramshahr was reportedly targeted, sustaining significant damage. American-Israeli fighter jets subsequently struck the Abou Ali petrochemical complex, followed by attacks on the Bandar-e Imam Khomeini facility, causing partial damage.

So far, five injuries have been reported from the Mahshahr and Bandar-e Imam Khomeini attacks.

The management of the Special Economic Petrochemical Zone announced that, following the decision of the emergency command committee, all personnel from the active industrial units in the area were evacuated.

Authorities emphasized that any potentially harmful substances released do not currently pose a threat to nearby cities.
