Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Sri Lankan counterpart held a telephone conversation on Wednesday evening.
During the call, Araqchi expressed gratitude for the Sri Lankan government’s efforts in the rescue operation involving the sailors of the Dena destroyer and for its assistance in the process of transferring the bodies of those martyred in the US attack on the Iranian naval vessel.
He also elaborated on the crimes committed by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, stating that the attack on the Dena destroyer constituted an “unprecedented war crime” by the US.
Araqchi emphasized that the Iranian nation would not forget the incident, which he described as a clear violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and the 1949 Geneva Conventions, and would utilize all legal and political capacities to hold those responsible accountable and bring them to justice.
The two foreign ministers also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations during their conversation.
